    About Zurs, Austria

Nestled in a high alpine valley at the base of Flexen Pass, Zurs is known for its large Olympian population and luxury accommodations. The beauty of a Zurs ski vacation is that it also shares both roads and lift access with Lech ski resort. Like most high alpine Austrian villages, Zurs is steeped in history. It’s considered the birthplace of skiing, and before there was skiing, the tiny mountain village was only inhabited by a small population in the summer months. One of the first ski lifts in Austria was constructed in Zurs in 1937, transforming it into one of the most elegant, romantic and popular mountain villages in the Arlberg. Now, it’s considered a world-class mecca for skiers seeking exclusivity and luxury.

The quaint Bavarian village is unimposing and authentic in its nature, yet much like its neighbor, Lech, it attracts celebrities and persons of notoriety. Zurs offers non-skiers and those looking for off-mountain activities plenty of options from paragliding to tobogganing, ice skating and winter hiking, to cross-country skiing and horse-drawn sleigh rides. Zurs has lively nightlife that can often last until dawn, and après-ski is taken extremely serious, from on-piste sunny patios with multiple bottles of wine, to a beer at one of Zurs’ outdoor cafes or the mellow experience of afternoon tea.

    Zurs Ski Resort

Beginners and intermediates will find more terrain at Zurs than at Lech, or St. Anton, and intermediates and above can challenge themselves to ski “The White Ring” or Der Weisse Ring route, which takes skiers on an interconnected tour of all the Arlberg ski resorts. Every year a race is held on the route, but the real challenge for a skier on a Zurs ski vacation is to see how many restaurants and bars they can frequent along the route.
