Whitefish Expert Skiing

The Whitefish expert skiing has terrain treasures for every sort of experienced skier. Moguls, technical trees, gully’s and gorge’s with funky fall-away terrain, steeps, chutes, open bowls and even some hidden cliffs. Expert skiers will be delighted with the lack of crowds and Whitefish’s topnotch black diamond terrain.

Whitefish Expert Terrain

On the front side of the mountain, expert skiers have a mind-numbing amount of options. The majority of black diamond (and double black) terrain on the front side can be found on looker’s right of the trail map. To get the day start off with a bang, you’ll want to head up Chair 1, or Big Mountain Express chairlift. From the top of the lift, you’ll be at Whitefish’s 6,817-foot summit. From here the choice is yours, and there’s no wrong answer. If you’re looking for some bowl-like steeps head into the North Bowl Face which accesses Schmidt’s Chute and funnels into some fun trees. If you’re looking for some steep glade skiing, head onto Russ’s Street and drop into double black Don’s Desecnt. Or you can drop in higher on East Rim Face and follow the ridge for more open steeps. Whitefish is chalk full of steeps that roll into benches or have interesting fall away pitch into fun gullies. 

For a rowdy, out-back experience head into Hellroaring Basin. The most challenging run can be found on Picture Chutes, which feature shorter, steep chutes amidst an open, steep face. Glory Hole is a great sustained run if you’re looking to get your blood pumping and Connie’s Coulee offers fun, steep trees. It all leads down to Chair 8, Hellroaring Lift, which puts you back on the lower frontside of the mountain. For an ultra-steep run drop into the Northside’s double black Big Horn trail. This precipitous, long run will have you hootin’ and hollerin’ all the way down to the Chair 7, Big Creek Express lift. If you’re looking for trees you’ll want to get to Stumptown or Window Pane on looker’s left of the Northside zone. These areas offer sustained pitch, perfectly-spaced trees— pure heaven.
