Summer in Aspen Snowmass

Aspen Snowmass is a renowned winter destination, but when the snow melts and wildflowers bloom to life, summer bestows a bevy of warm-weather activities for visitors to enjoy at the resort and in the surrounding mountains.

If you ask, many locals will tell you "they came for the winters and stayed for the summers" and that's largely due to the sheer amount of outdoor activities and experiences to be had in the summer at Aspen Snowmass. Top summer activities include the lift-accessed downhill riding at Snowmass Bike Park, hiking around the stunning 14,000-plus-foot Maroon Bells, whitewater rafting on the Roaring Fork River in the spring and early summer and stand-up paddle boarding on the pristine North Star Preserve. Additionally, outdoor or open-air concerts abound thanks to the free Thursday Snowmass concerts and the summer-long Aspen Music School performances.

When it comes to deciding where to stay, Aspen or Snowmass, which are just nine miles apart, it's easy to choose based on what's important to you on your vacation. Stay in Snowmass’ trailside lodging for the most convenient hiking and lift-served biking access. Alternatively, staying in the heart of historic downtown Aspen puts al fresco dining, galleries and boutique shopping within strolling distance. Downtown Aspen also provides convenient access to a variety of hikes and cross-country mountain bike rides.
