Next month we'll be saying so long to ski season in Aspen Snowmass, where closing-day celebrations include a little bit of friendly competition and a lot of merrymaking. See how each of the four mountains in Aspen like to end the year:
Aspen Mountain | April 16
Meet at Boyd's Bump on the Ridge of Bell at 1 p.m. to watch—or participate—in the annual bump-skiing free-for-all. Afterward, celebrations start at 3 p.m. with an après-fiesta on the Ajax Tavern patio with Mexican street fair, entertainment, an open bar and raffle. Patrons can purchase a $45 wrist band for access to unlimited food and three drinks, or purchase food and drinks a la carte.
Aspen Highlands | April 9
Known locally as the party of the season, Aspen Highlands' closing day calls for donning fun costumes and toasting bubbly at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro. Afterward, the pond-skimming competition Schneetag takes place at the base of the mountain at 1:30 p.m., with an outdoor party at Highlands Alehouse post-competition.
Snowmass | April 16
For a family-friendly party, Snowmass' closing day consists of live tunes, ski games for the kids and much more. Gear up for next season with discounted ski equipment and apparel at Snowmass Village Mall's sidewalk sales.
Buttermilk | April 2
Start the day off with bacon waffles for Bacon Appreciation Day at 9:30 a.m., and enjoy bacon samplers around the mountain throughout the day. Kid’s games will be available in the base area, and when it's time for après, ski to Bumps for bacon and beer, or even a bacon-inspired cocktail as local bartenders compete for the best concoction.
