Aspen Snowmass set to host 2017 Audi World Cup Finals

For the first time in 20 years, the FIS Alpine World Cup Finals will be held in the U.S., and Aspen Snowmass was selected—and recently confirmed—to host this prestigious event on March 15-19, 2017. For alpine ski racers, only the Olympics and world championships are more important than this event. These races that will bring both the men’s and women’s tour to Aspen.

“This is likely the biggest ski racing event ever held in Aspen, and that’s saying something,” said John Rigney, vice president of sales and events for the Aspen Skiing Company.

In recent years, Aspen has hosted the women’s giant slalom and slalom World Cup events over Thanksgiving weekend, so Aspen Snowmass events and snow-making crew know what it takes to put on a world-class-level alpine race. In fact, the resort is confident they can provide an even better race surface in March than they typically can in November.

“With the March races, we have much more time to prepare the course than our traditional dates,” said Aspen Skiing Company spokesman Jeff Hanle. “With advancements in snow making technology and the additional years of experience we have gained, we are confident our course will be rock solid and ready to host the best in the world.”
